This abandoned ship graveyard is one of several in the Vladivostok area. It is situated in the Bay of Labor on the Russian island of Russkiy.
The majority of the ships “buried” there belonged to the Pacific Fleet. The ships here have been decommissioned and removed from service for more than forty years – since 1974.
This bay had 42 submerged or semi-submerged vessels as of January 2000. Ships range from destroyers and submarines to fishing boats and hydrographic survey vessels.
This bay is, of course, a scrap metal treasure trove for both officials and “metal hunters.” However, it is extremely difficult to obtain, which is why so little has been salvaged. However, in recent years, the recycling process has accelerated, with efforts being made to lift entire ship carcasses out of the water.
New ships arrive at this graveyard on a regular basis, waiting for their turn to be recycled. But will they ever “live” long enough to see their turn?
Thank you, KFSS, for the information and amazing photographs. You can see more of them here- KFSS.
